Clarkesworld on short fiction, and Ralan.com

Posted by Will Entrekin on June 3, 2008

Over at Clarkesworld magazine, Neil Clarke ponders the market for short fiction. The title refers to the death of short fiction, but the post more accurately concerns the science fiction/fantasy market.

He links to Ralan.com, which is one of the single most valuable resources concerning the genre short-fiction marketplace available, anywhere, so I’m taking an opportunity to mention it. If you’re looking for a market of a genre story, chances are it’s listed at Ralan.com. It also divides the marketplace into easily understandable (and valuable) categories to help you search: got an adult story? Check. Want a great big publisher? Check. More interested in just breaking in and perhaps exploring the micro-presses? Check there, too. Who accepts e-subs, who requires them, who pays what, and what they’re all looking for.

It’s pretty much a one-stop shop. There are links to publishers of longer stuff, too, but only publishers: no agents for novels.
